Dalton Helps Expand Bata Shoe Company's Legacy with Condo Project

Batawa Development Corporation’s (BDC) entrusted Dalton to oversee the transformation of the former Bata Shoe Factory into BataLofts, into a mixed-use condominium that features 47 residential units and spaces for commercial and community use. The project is guided by BDC's vision to build a beautiful, sustainable, vibrant, and friendly community in Batawa, ON,

As the project’s construction manager, we led a project team comprised of more than 70 companies, which includes architects, consultants and trades, that ultimately built upon the legacy of the iconic, 85,380 sq. ft. structure and the surrounding community.

The Dalton Company provided leadership during the lifecycle of the $34M project, managing several unforeseen issues that were presented throughout the 75-year-old industrial building. We delivered the project through a Construction Manager At Risk approach–our preferred method of building–to transform the five-story structure.

The scope of work included the construction of 47 residential units, and the addition of balconies, a lobby, a roof top terrace, entirely new services, electrical and mechanical systems–including a geothermal heating system that will keep occupants warm in the winter and cool in the summer–and a new parking lot and driveway.
