Hasty Market Selects Dalton to Rejuvenate Downtown Toronto Mixed-Use Building

Hasty Market has engaged The Dalton Company as construction manager of a major renovation to one of its downtown Toronto retail stores.

A Canadian owned and operated corporation with over 200 locations across Ontario, Hasty Market places a top priority on customer service and convenience. With this is mind, the company chose Dalton to lead a $1.7M interior/exterior renovation of Hasty Market’s 300 Simcoe St. store—a two-story, mixed-use residential/retail building.

The main floor will be renovated to enhance the current Hasty Market retail store, while the second story will be transformed into residential rental units. A new HVAC system will also be installed.

As with many downtown Toronto project locations, site logistics will need to be carefully managed due to the size and location of the property, which affords limited space to accommodate equipment, resources and crews. Our project team will also work closely with the City of Toronto to attain permission for sidewalk and street closures on an as-needed basis.

Our extensive experience managing projects involving a complex structural component was a key factor in Hasty Market’s selection of The Dalton Company. Using our Alternative Approach to Building, our project team will collaborate closely with structural engineer Atkins + Van Groll during the pre-construction phase to develop a detailed plan and risk management strategy.

This project builds upon our growing portfolio of renovation projects involving structural engineering elements that are technically challenging and present significant risks, including The Badminton & Racquet Club, Bayview Golf & Country Club ad All Saints Anglican Church.

The anticipated completion of the project is Winter 2019.
