Modernizing The Thornhill Club
Established in 1922, The Thornhill Club offers a wide range of activities for its members, including golf, curling, tennis and fitness. The club selected The Dalton Company to modernize its clubhouse to further distinguish itself as a leader among private clubs in Toronto.
As construction manager for the renovation, Dalton collaborated with The Thornhill Club and numerous consultants—including the architect, environmental services, and mechanical, electrical, structural and engineers—to lead a project that ultimately enhanced the club's showcase facility.
Once the Definition of Success was established by our project team, Dalton got to work, renovating over 19,000 sq. ft. both inside and outside the clubhouse. This included the construction of a two-story addition that extended the men's locker room and created a new fitness centre featuring a weight room and a yoga and dance studio. Renovations to the ladies locker room and several hallways were also completed.
During construction, the clubhouse needed to remain open during the 2016 winter curling season. Dalton's project team communicated regularly with the club's operations' staff so they could anticipate and accommodate temporary power and water service disruptions. Also, temporary locker rooms were created to accommodate curlers through the winter.
In the end, Dalton's Alternative Approach to Building delivered the project on budget with a high level of quality control that has transformed key areas of The Thornhill Club's main facility into modern, beautiful spaces for exercise and rejuvenation.
