Studio Expansion Will Create an additional 70,000 sq. ft. of Purpose-built Space

The Dalton Company has been engaged by Studio City Toronto and Studio City Rentals as Construction Manager to redevelop the former Showline Studios complex located in Toronto’s Port Lands district.

Studio City Rentals is an equipment rental company with locations in Toronto, Vancouver and Los Angeles.  Studio City Rentals has supplied equipment to hundreds of productions that include Incredible Hulk, Chicago, Pixels, Robocop, Total Recall, Cinderella Man, Suicide Squad, Molly’s Game and more.

The studio complex redevelopment will concentrate 70,000 sq. ft. of purpose-built studio space in one location. The project is being championed by the City of Toronto, which acquired the property–located at 915 Lake Shore Blvd. East–to encourage growth in the Film and Television industry and to address the shortfall in Toronto’s current studio space capacity.

The project includes salvaging and reusing components from an existing 40,000 sq. ft. stage known as the “Jumbo Stage” that Studio City Rentals currently operates at a nearby site. The scope of work also includes the construction of 30,000 sq. ft. of purpose build sound stages. Ultimately, the renovation and expansion will increase Studio City Toronto’s overall stage capacity to accommodate large-scale Film and Television productions in Toronto’s Studio District.

Additional work involves adding new services–including gas, hydro, sanitary and water–building new parking areas and landscaping.

The project team includes Ken Ferguson (Project Manager representing Studio City Toronto), RAW Design (Architect), GPY + Associates (Mechanical), e-Lumen International (Electrical & Lighting), LEA Consulting (Site Services & Traffic Planning) and Atkins + Van Groll (Structural).

Dalton was selected by Studio City Toronto to lead construction activities based, in part, on our successful delivery of production studio projects for clients such as Stereo D (a subsidiary of Deluxe), Bell, CTV and Alliance Atlantis.
