We recently celebrated the official opening of the Phase One expansion of Sherwood Heights School at a ceremony involving staff and students, and several members of Dalton’s project team.
The ribbon cutting-ceremony marked a significant milestone for the K-12 school—an independent school located in Mississauga, ON—as the three-storey addition provides new learning spaces, including computer and science labs, dedicated art and music rooms, an atrium, and a kitchen.

The event was an opportunity for Sherwood heights to celebrate its continued growth and evolution from its humble roots in 1989 as an independent school operating in one location with 18 students and three staff, to a thriving educational institution that is now home to over 500 students across two campuses.
The expansion enhances the school’s ability to offer comprehensive, engaging, and supportive learning environments that encourage hands-on learning and innovation.

As Construction Manager, Dalton led construction activities for the $9.5M expansion project, working closely with Duncan Ross Architect and a multi-disciplinary team to deliver the project on schedule and on budget.

During construction, maintaining the health and safety of students, staff and visitors occupying the adjoining building was a key priority for Dalton’s team. Constant communication between our Site Manager and the school’s senior team was critical to ensure construction activities did not disrupt school activities.
For example, in June our team made accommodations to allow the school’s graduation ceremony proceed uninterrupted, which involved offsetting planned work to take place after hours or on weekends.
Phase 2 of the expansion—which will be completed at a later date—will extend the newly constructed areas of the school. Current plans for these new spaces include a full-size gym and additional classrooms.
