Mount Pleasant Group Breaks Ground on New Funeral Centre

Mount Pleasant Group recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for Duffin Meadows Funeral Centre—a new, 21,000 sq. ft., sustainable facility that will be built by The Dalton Company.
Located in Pickering, ON, Duffin Meadows Funeral Centre will prioritize accessibility, sustainability and family-centred service. It will feature two large, flexible gathering spaces designed to accommodate a range of services, visitations and receptions. Both spaces can be divided into smaller rooms as needed, allowing families to create arrangements that reflect their traditions, preferences and group sizes.
Dalton was selected as Construction Manager to lead construction activities for the funeral centre, which has been designed by architect van Groll & Associates with sustainability at its core. The facility will feature zero natural gas combustion and will utilize geothermal technology for heating and cooling.
The funeral centre will also meet Rick Hansen Foundation Gold Certification and Canadian Green Building Council Zero Carbon Design and Zero Carbon Building Performance certifications. It has already been nominated for a Durham Region Accessibility Award.
Construction of the facility is slated to begin in September 2026 and is targeted for completion in Winter 2028.
