Team Spotlight: Meet Joselin Molina, Senior Quantity Surveyor
At Dalton, our success is built on the talent, dedication, and collaborative spirit of our people. Today, we are thrilled to shine our spotlight on Joselin Molina, a new member of our team who bridges predictive budget management and cutting-edge construction technology.
As our Senior Quantity Surveyor, Joselin uses technical expertise and a calm approach to give clients the confidence and clarity they need for informed decisions throughout the construction lifecycle.
Joselin is also leading Dalton's Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) initiative. By leveraging advanced modelling and visualization tools, she is transforming how we plan, communicate, and execute complex builds. This approach allows us to identify conflicts earlier, improve coordination among teams, and avoid costly surprises before construction begins. Her contributions will help us deliver projects more efficiently and with less risk.
Beyond her technical expertise, Joselin brings warmth and a collaborative spirit to the office. Colleagues say she’s approachable and quick to lend a hand; the kind of teammate who makes complex projects and intimidating tech feel manageable.
Joselin is a member of the Canadian Association of Women in Construction and leads our Women in Construction committee. Fun fact: She represented Dalton at the CAWIC Bonspiel last winter, and you would never have guessed it was her first time playing.
We asked Joselin a few questions to get to know her better:
Q: What is something you have enjoyed learning in your first eight months at Dalton?
JM: One of the best aspects of my work has been the opportunity to engage with a diverse range of project types. Currently, I am involved in renovation projects within the Independent School, Senior Living, and Science/Healthcare sectors. Each project brings its own cost drivers and scope variables.
I've also gained exposure to Dalton Works, the expedited side of the business that handles renovations, maintenance, and emergency response services with a different pace and scope discipline than our larger projects.
On top of that, I've enjoyed learning how AI-assisted drawing reviews and visualization tools can speed up drawing review, takeoff, and client walkthroughs. I've had the opportunity to work on and help develop these tools to position Dalton more as an owner's advisor on the visualization side.
Q: What is the most rewarding part of your role?
JM: My role has evolved beyond traditional quantity surveying to include supporting the adoption of advanced technology solutions within Dalton projects. The rewarding part is seeing these tools translate into real efficiency gains for the client and the larger team.
Q: What's one thing you're excited about in the industry right now?
JM: I’m really excited about how visualization is evolving, especially with VR walkthroughs and renderings, for helping clients and owners communicate. Flat blueprints and static architectural images just don’t do justice to the real scale and feel of a space.
With VR, clients can actually step into a virtual version of a renovation or new build, making it feel like they’re really there. This immersive experience goes far beyond traditional 2D renderings and scale models, helping clients grasp the design, scale, and vibe of the project more realistically.
We are currently developing a virtual walkthrough of Cockwell Hall, a new live/learn building for Appleby College. This model will allow the school community and building committee members to interact with the design and understand how their new spaces will look and feel when completed.
Q: Can you share a personal fact or fun anecdote about yourself?
JM: My appreciation for design doesn't end at the office. In my spare time, I enjoy working with wood and curating live-edge pieces into one-of-a-kind home accents. When I’m not in the workshop, you will find me on the dance floor - I love salsa dancing!
