The Dalton Company has undertaken multiple renovations and new build/addition projects at St. Andrew's College with the most recent being completed in 2020, a $10M 26,000-square-foot renovation of the McLaughlin Hall Science Centre.
The multi-phased complex renovation of a three-floor building in the heart of the SAC campus was completed while keeping the school running for an 18-month build period. The Science Centre required the introduction of new mechanical, electrical and fire life safety systems. The new building features varsity-level facilities including high-specification laboratories, a two-storey Maker Space, robotics rooms, general classrooms and associated ancillary spaces.
Additional Info:
The McLaughlin Hall renovation project expanded existing science labs on the second and third floor, removed offices along the south windows and extended the corridor to the south windows on these floors to allow for collaboration space for students outside the classroom areas. Washrooms, janitor closets and storage areas were realigned adjacent to the classroom spaces.
The renovations occurred within a three-story wing attached to other buildings used by staff and students during construction and renovations. Dalton worked to mitigate noise and environmental impacts during school hours. Work within common access routes (ie stairwells) were phased to have avoid performing work while these spaces were occupied.
